TMHCA is watching the TennCare budget cut of Level 2 Case Management closely. Level 2 Case Management is a community based and recovery oriented service that provides care coordination to approximately 50,000 adult individuals across Tennessee. It is a TennCare benefit that is currently provided based on medical necessity criteria. If these cuts are accepted, there will be a severe restriction in the use of this service. The new purposed case management services will be for a three month period after a crisis event or hospitalization. Gone would be the glue that helps keep many individuals in recovery.
During Behavioral Health Day on the Hill and TAMHO Day on the Hill many members spoke with their Legislators about this issue. It was reported that good dialogue was had by many during their meetings. The general feel on the Hill is that Level 2 Case Management will not be cut from the budget. Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey is quoted as saying, “The Governor does not want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.” The Governor’s budget will be revealed during the week of March 30th.
