Insure Tennessee has risen again on Capitol Hill like a phoenix rising from the ashes. During special session in January Governor Haslam’s insurance plan for the state, known as Insure Tennessee, was voted down by the Senate Health & Welfare Committee. Senator Jeff Yarbro, (D) of Nashville, the lone Democrat on the Senate Health & Welfare Committee, has championed a revised bill as the sponsor of SJR0093. On Wednesday March 25, 2015 the Senate Health & Welfare Committee heard Insure Tennessee again and voted 6-2 in favor. The bill will be before the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee next week.
The passage of Senate Joint Resolution 0093 would affect over 200,000 uninsured Tennesseans throughout the state by providing health insurance. The resolution would allow Governor Haslam to draw down $2.8 billion dollars from the federal government and state hospitals have agreed to cover the $74 million states share. It is important during this time for everyone to contact their representative and senator.
